Music is a whole universe.  It is the people’s expression of the soul.  It is the multiple demonstrations of different ways of living, thinking, and feeling.
Since we were children we have enjoyed the delightful sound of our native music and it has been a very important part of our lives.  Our music is the
expression of facts of our daily lives, culture and nature articulated with our feelings of love, happiness and sadness.

Our music is homage to our Mother Land.  The original musical style of Saraguro is the chaspishka; an ancient rhythm of the Incas.  This rhythm is
very happy and little-known abroad.  Saraguro people dance to  this rhythm during religious and social events.

The traditional Saraguro music is executed with a violin or a concertina accompanied by a traditional bass drum, a flute or a rondador.  We  taught
ourselves how to play the instruments by observing the elderly Saraguro musicians who were masters of this art.

Thanks to all the Saraguro musicians who maintained, preserved and transmitted the genuine and exquisite sounds of the indigenous music of our
ethnic group.  This music vibrates today in a flute and in the depths of a rondador, projected through the ingenious talent of LOS INKAS.

Over the years we have learned to rediscover what is still alive and what will transcend to the future, because only by  playing our music and dancing
will we touch the souls of our people and then they will understand the majestic meaning of our identity.

GROUP BIOGRAPHY

We are members of the Cultural Group "Rumiñahui" in Saraguro and we began our  musical project to rescue, promote and interpret our indigneous
music in the late 1980s.  In 1990 this music was recorded for the first time in a professional recording studio.  As "Rumiñahui" we became pioneers
of this musical style with the production of the premier album titled "Saraguro Llactamanta" ("From Saraguro Homeland").

When we began our  university studies in different cities of Ecuador, other younger members of our community moved into the Rumiñahui group,
and so it continues still today.  But the passion for this art continued for us.  Being in the USA we founded the music and dance group  LOS INKAS,
as part of Los Inkas Native Corporation Inc.

In 2005 we created our own recording studio called Inkas Records.  In the autumn of 2006, we produced our second CD of traditional music entitled
"Piel canela" with 12 songs that include 8  which were composed by us and 4 other  pieces composed by other Saraguro artists.  This CD was
launched in Saraguro, Ecuador in March 2007.

This is how we launched the musical project of Los Inkas abroad, and we hope it encourages  younger generations to be proud of our cultural
heritage and that it  enhances our cultural identity.

We want to show that even while we are away from home, it is possible to maintain our customs and traditions alive.  We have included our children
in this project to teach them about their cultural roots. We are part of  the cultural diversity that exists in the United States but we still honor and
maintain our own cultural identity.

We created our own musical style and have included other Latin-American rhythms in our albums to transport our audience into a visionary path
through the Andean Mountains.

We have performed in schools, colleges and universities in Ecuador and in the United States.  We also have performed at Art Fairs, Festivals and
many public and private events dedicated to all people around the world.
